THE SUNOVA | NORM HANN EXPEDITION is a versatile touring board that has been designed for paddlers who are excited about going farther, exploring their local waterways or enjoying a fun day tour with family and friends.

Norm Hann, a legendary Canadian paddleboard expedition leader, environmental ambassador and SUNOVA athlete has rigorously tested this board in some of the harshest coastal conditions in British Columbia on his multi day paddling expeditions. In partnership with designer Marcus Tardrew they have created a board that not only performs well on overnight trips but is a fun, comfortable and beautiful paddling board that can be used on almost any waterway and in any condition.

The Expedition, in the paulownia wood construction with stunning Pacific Northwest tribal crest, is one of the most striking boards on the market. If you’re looking for a stable touring, flat water, or ocean crossover board designed with simplicity and ease of use in mind for your paddling goals then look no further.

About the board

General goal | theme of the board

An all round expedition touring board that paddles efficiently in any water condition from flat to choppy or in a downwind. This board performs well when fully loaded with gear and with its flat deck is a fun board to surf, train on and can be enjoyed on mellow exploratory day tours.

Conditions it's working best

Any conditions you’d like to paddle in fully loaded with gear or unloaded for speed, lightness and ease of use.

 Skill level it's best for

Novice to Advanced.

Paddle power

SPEED: Average due to the width of the board.

DIRECTIONAL CONTROL: Good with the parallel outline.

ROUGH WATER ABILITY: Great due to parallel rails, lower displacement in water and flatdeck.

WAVE CATCHING ABILITY: Above average for a touring board with its flat deck that promotes ease of foot movement.

What you thought of when you designed it?

Outfitted with ample attachment points, nose and tail handles Norm and Marcus designed this board to be able to carry expedition gear for overnight trips. But they didn’t want a board that was so specific to touring that it couldn’t be used in other applications. The simplistic, surf inspired flat deck and added stability of the parallel rails provides a confidence inspiring design for all ranges of paddlers. The board provides confidence for those who are just getting into touring, or looking to step up to an efficient hardboard, they will love the feel and stability, while experienced paddlers can push this board as far as they want.

What it possibly compromises on then?

Not designed for speed with no compromise, like the pro boards but more user friendly for cruisers, or beginners to racing.
