THE WEDGE brings an incredible amount of acceleration, instantaneous response, and an all-around level of performance that will blow your mind.

It excels most for SUP surfers who are ready to push themselves to the next level. The board loves top to bottom surfing, quick pivots to tail releases in the lip and has so much speed that you might just find yourself going to the air!

Floaters, Airs, Tail Slides.

 Skill level it's best for

 Paddle Power

DIRECTIONAL CONTROL: Quite good due to step rails.

WAVE CATCHING ABILITY: Good, in the right conditions.

What you thought of when you designed it?

Designed as a board for Daniel Hughes with his input and feedback. Daniel wanted a board that could be surfed radically in smaller conditions. A board you could still blow the tail out from and do some nice hacks, yet feel comfortable that you will make it to the next section when conditions are quick. Something to surf to the highest possible level every single day.

What it possibly compromises on then?

This board is really for competent riders that know how to read waves and conditions. It’s not the easiest board to surf but it’s definitely one of the most high performance. .

Design info

Outline

Clean performance outline to accentuated double flyer. The outline of this board is that of a true performer with curves in all the right places. With a clean curve all the way to the front fins the board performs cleanly and easily both fore and backhand. The flyers add pivot points where the fins are placed, this gives the board amazing surfabilty in the pocket enabling you to get vertical where you didn’t think possible.

Rails

Step Rails. This gives the board autopilot and training wheels combined. It’s really common, that if your rails are too thin, you can bury them if you go too hard. It’s almost like you have to have a very acute sense to know when to hold back. But if your rails are too thick, you're fighting a chunky rail into the water, that gets harder and harder the faster you go. This rail is thin so it drops in instantly, but then it only goes as far in until it hits the thick part, so you get enough penetration in an instant to give you hold but it won't bury. it's like you just can't make a mistake. This also helps to pack the volume in right where you need it.

Rocker

Accentuated nose flip, with a flatter tail curve. The accentuated nose flip gives the board great chances to recover when coming back down off the lip whilst the flatter tail curve offers great projection out of turns. It also helps the board power through flat sections with ease, ready to attack the next lip down the line.

Bottom

Flat upfront blending into a single concave through the middle, to a double concave into the back foot and subtle V on the exit. The concave upfront helps initiate a turn earlier, keeps the board responsive, as your rail will engage the second your mind decides to. We have purposely kept the concave out of the nose, this is to reduce over sensitivity and keep the front rail higher out of the water. At speed, if your front rail engages when you don’t want it to, it can throw you off or into a spin. The double concave then creates a spine where the stringer would be but also allows the transition into the subtle V to be smoother. This subtle V kicks in when you are right on the back foot, when somewhere critical it offers that bit more hold and control helping to bed the tail in.

Deck

Relatively flat in the standing area through to roll in the tail. Being flat in the standing area adds a level of comfort and stability to the board, whilst keeping the roll towards the tail means the rails can stay nice and low giving you great penetration.

Fins

5 Fins. For top to bottom surfing, the thruster will be the better option. As the waves get a little steeper and faster, switch out to the quad to hold a higher, more direct line, or if the waves are flatter and more open with little chance of top to bottom surfing, the quad is also an option.

Final Statement

A really good board for high performance surfing in everyday conditions. The board has so much down the line speed and drive and is able to hook under the lip amazingly well. If performance is what you're after then this could be a great option.
