THE GHOST UP is a performance oriented board, designed to pair perfectly with our Ghost model as a 2 board quiver. Be ready for any conditions the ocean offers up.

This board is the brainchild of ‘Creek” aka Rick Weeks. After the amazing feedback and consistent testing of our Ghost model over recent years, Rick found himself wanting a board that can handle a bit more power in critical sections. A board that is still very comfortable, but covers a wider range of conditions with ease, with an emphasis on performance when it’s a little bigger. Enter the Ghost UP!

A narrower plan shape with clean curves through the mid section into a hip that still echoes that Ghost flavor. Paired with a set back fin placement and a performance rocker with extra tail kick, this board is super quick and agile. It will have you taking drops, making sections and jamming under the lip with ease. Reach the final frontier, and go to places you never thought possible.

ABOUT THE BOARD

GENERAL GOAL | THEME OF THE BOARD:

High performance simplified! The same goal as the original Ghost, just for slightly more powerful conditions.

WAVE TYPE | SIZE IT'S WORKING BEST:

Designed as a board for slightly more powerful surf, from waist high to double overhead.

MANEUVERS IT DOES BEST:

Snappy turns in the pocket, clan cutbacks, screaming down the line.

SKILL LEVEL IT'S BEST FOR:

Intermediate to Advanced.

PADDLE POWER:

SPEED: Very good for a board in this category.

DIRECTIONAL CONTROL: Medium to low yaw, depending on size.

OVER WHITE WATER: The Pixie “Flip” Nose helps the board climb up the whitewater, and its ample surface area assists it over.

WAVE CATCHING ABILITY: Very Good.

WHAT YOU THOUGHT OF WHEN YOU DESIGNED IT?:

As a lifelong surfer, I wanted to actually surf BETTER at 77 in even bigger waves. I wasn’t ready for the scrap heap just yet. I needed a very different board to accomplish that, and with all the time on the Ghost, it was clear that a few areas could be tweaked to improve this.

WHAT IT POSSIBLY COMPROMISES ON THEN?:

Not designed for very small low power waves, although it will still work great if you have small waves with a little bit of punch.

SHAPE DETAILS | DESIGN INFO

OUTLINE:

Cleaner, narrower outline through to a special hip. The cleaner curve offers great maneuverability both forehand and backhand, enabling the board to be surfed radically, but predictably, from anywhere on the board. The hip allows the board to still keep a slightly straighter section of rail, helping with tracking and down-the-line speed. It also adds a pivot point over the fins making it turn radically when you get your foot further back.

RAILS:

Pinched in the middle, low in the tail. The pinched rail allows more volume to be packed into a more compact package and allows the deck line to be relatively flat in the standing area, adding comfort. Throughout, the rail line is low enough to offer great hold and penetration of the face so you can feel super confident in any conditions.

ROCKER:

Accentuated nose flip, clean performance rocker, to accentuated tail rocker. The accentuated nose flip gives the board great chances to recover when coming back down off the lip whilst the clean performance rocker enables the board to be surfed radically in the power source of the wave, the extra tail flip again helps the surfabilty, and keeps the board in the pocket in bigger conditions. This overall rocker package makes for an extremely maneuverable board.

BOTTOM:

Flat upfront blending into a single concave through the middle, to a double concave into the back foot and a subtle V on the exit. The concave upfront helps initiate a turn earlier, keeps the board responsive, as your rail will engage the second your mind decides to. We have purposely kept the concave out of the nose, this is to reduce over sensitivity and keep the front rail higher out of the water. At speed, if your front rail engages when you don’t want it to, it can throw you off or into a spin. The double concave then creates a spine where the stringer would be but also allows the transition into the subtle V to be smoother. This subtle V kicks in when you are right on the back foot, when somewhere critical it offers that bit more hold and control helping to bed the tail in.

DECK:

Reasonable roll with pinched low rail. At paddling speed, the water rushes over the rail, as the rail is submerged below the waterline, this creates more stability because the board can't bob around without having to lift the water with it. While stationary it's not so effective.

FINS:

5 Fins with a set back position. For top to bottom surfing, the thruster will be the better option. As the waves get a little steeper and faster, switch out to the quad to hold a higher, more direct line, or if the waves are flatter and more open with little chance of top to bottom surfing, the quad is also an option.

FINAL STATEMENT:

If you are looking for a board for slightly more powerful waves, or a complementary model to the Ghost, for the perfect two board quiver, look no further!
