ABOUT THE BOARD

GENERAL GOAL | THEME OF THE BOARD:

All-round traditional style longboard, designed for maximum lift during nose rides at lower speeds, plenty of acceleration in back foot turns. An all-round playful high-performance board that screams traditional lines.

WAVE TYPE | SIZE IT'S WORKING BEST:

Most softer wave types, down the line, and open waves. From just under knee high up to head and a half. If it gets bigger, it just needs to be a softer, slower wave.

MANEUVERS IT DOES BEST:

Smooth walking, solid hang time, and quick, sharp tail turns.

SKILL LEVEL IT'S BEST FOR:

Novice to Pro.

PADDLE POWER:

Average.

WHAT YOU THOUGHT OF WHEN YOU DESIGNED IT?:

The goal was to be able to surf like Joel Tudor, smooth and easy to walk, stable underfoot, yet still free and surfable. I typically enjoyed high-performance style longboards, basically big shortboards with a longboard nose, not ideal for critical long nose rides on softer waves. I personally finally took an interest in logs and wanted to learn quickly what makes a good log. At least 12 attempts at a log designed for myself, before settling on this design. 

WHAT IT POSSIBLY COMPROMISES ON THEN?:

No compromises, just ride it in the right waves.

SHAPE DETAILS | DESIGN INFO

OUTLINE:

Wide point pulled back, creating a longer, straighter section of nose outline that tracks a good line while nose riding, combined with a wide tail and lots of outline curve back there, to hook tight tail turns.

RAILS:

Super thin refined rails all the way through, no hard edge at all, soft bottom edge encourages water onto the deck, locking in for better nose rides. The thin rail slices through the water effortlessly with minimal drag on take off. 

ROCKER:

Standard rocker, very even curve with accelerated tail rocker. Super smooth and playful to surf from the middle of the board. The tail rocker offers easy turning, combined with maximum suction or a low-pressure region just behind the fin, to really pull the tail down while nose riding.

BOTTOM:

Nose concave, blending to a rolled center and back to a concave tail. Nose concave offers good purchase and hold on the face while nose riding, rolled center smoothes out the walking, and concave tail offers some squirt and acceleration when initiating back foot rail turns. 

DECK:

The deck has slightly more roll due to the very fine rails. Also noticeable is the tail rocker built into the deck line, creating down force as water is redirected upward when leaving the tail.

FINS:

1. Try a few out and experiment, something I haven't played with on this board, so no fin recommendations from Bert yet.

FINAL STATEMENT:

A classic-looking traditional longboard, loads of interesting features. A really unique feel. Totally fun and a great nose rider.
