THE LONGGUN is for when it gets big.

Originally it was designed as a contest longboard. As a regular competitor, you could roll up to a contest and be faced with knee high Avalon point, or 5 times overhead Yallingup, so there was a need for a longboard that could handle any size the ocean could throw at you.

This board can handle some serious size and holds in super well when it gets scary big.

About the board

General goal | theme of the board

A big wave longboard.

Wave type ||| size it's working best

Solid waves with punch. From head and a half up to 4 times overhead, even bigger if your game.

 Maneuvers it does best

Carves and driving bottom turns at high speed.

 Skill level it's best for

Intermediate to Pro.

 Paddle power

Average.

What it possibly compromises on then?

Just not a small wave board.

Shape details summary | Design info

Outline

Pulled in longboard nose, clean straighter outline into a tight rounded pin. The width being just under 22” straightens the outline slightly, combine this with the narrower tail and you get a board that can be pushed really hard into fast bottom turns and hold its line really well. The narrower nose helps deal with the extra wind normally encountered in larger surf. Too much nose area is notorious for catching the wind and getting hung up on the take off. The board is also super responsive rail to rail due to the narrower plan shape and tail.

Rails

Standard profile with a pronounced tucked edge in the tail. We’ve mentioned before that thin rails penetrate better at higher speeds, in the case of the Long Gun, the rails are not super thin through the middle and forward, It’s the narrowness of the board that makes it easy to get on rail. The rails are slightly thicker than some other models, this is mainly due to flex issues. At high speeds there are higher G forces, so your board needs to be stiffer so it doesn’t over flex and wash off speed. The board in general is also slightly thicker, both these factors help to stiffen up the overall board and deal with the extra power and speed. The tucked edge through the tail helps the board hug the face better at speed and also feel more comfortable on late drops with added hold.

Rocker

High performance banana style rocker. This amount of rocker fits really well into tighter parts of the wave, it also handles supercritical drops really well. You can literally fall out of the lip and it sticks and holds wherever it lands. The board loves to be surfed deep in the pocket and bowly waves present no challenge.

Bottom

Flat bottom. Here the Sunova construction with the flexible bottom really comes into play, more so than other models. The faster you go, the more chops and bumps become an issue, the flex in the bottom absorbs chop and gives a super smooth ride.

Deck

Standard deck roll. That’s it.

Fins

Thruster. For sure the best performance option. I personally like to run a slightly larger tail fin, generally the next size up from my standard size, then run side fins the next size down. This reduces oversteer and too much sensitivity at high speeds, plus keeps the tail where it's supposed to be, offering hold, drive and a solid underfoot feel.

Final Statement

A good longboard for solid overhead waves.
